Joaquin Phoenix letterman

I pray that this was true and he has really not gone mad. But for me it was no acting that has been described in the press.

Tom brady sisters

>> August 4, 2009

SAN MATEO, Calif. - Before he won Super Bowls, before he dated supermodels and before he was stalked by paparazzi, Tom Brady was just "Tommy," a regular kid from the neighborhood.

He collected baseball cards by the boxful, played golf with his dad on Sunday mornings, served as an altar boy in the local parish and demonstrated his arm strength from the back of his mother's Volkswagen van, flinging newspapers to the neatly manicured lawns in this hilly suburb of San Francisco.

Brady was well-scrubbed and bright, a taller version of Kevin Arnold from the old TV show, "The Wonder Years" - sans the New York Jets jacket, of course. He didn't start playing football until the ninth grade, and he wasn't good enough to start at quarterback on a team that finished 0-8 and didn't score a touchdown.

Most of the people in Brady's life thought his best sport was baseball, but he practically willed himself into a football career. Even now, 13 years after he graduated from Junipero Serra High School, an all-boys Catholic school shoe-horned into one of San Mateo's upper middle-class neighborhoods, that is how they remember their Tommy.

Driven. Focused. Quietly confident. Well, quiet most of the time, anyway. "I'll never forget this one time, ninth grade, this paper he wrote for school," Maureen Brady-Timmons, the oldest of Brady's three elder sisters, says from her living room on Portola Drive - a Randy Moss fly pattern from their parents' home. "Us girls, we were all pretty good in sports, always in the newspaper. Tommy always used to be known as 'Maureen Brady's little brother' or 'The Little Brady.'

"So he writes a paper, saying one day he wants us to be known as Tom Brady's sisters. He wrote, 'One day, I'm going to be a household name.' That's what he told my mom: 'One day I'm going to be a household name.' "

They all laughed. As much as they loved and supported little Tommy, they never expected it would turn out like this:

Three Super Bowl championships, with a chance for a fourth a week from Sunday when the Patriots face the Giants. Two Super Bowl MVPs. The reigning league MVP. Magazine covers. Endorsements. Gisele Bundchen.

Post office closing lists

If it wasn’t difficult enough already making sure you get to the post office now, imagine what it’ll be like with 1,000 less of them. There is no doubt that the United States Postal Service is having financial problems, and recently they announced that they are removing over 100,000 drop
off boxess from the streets of the United States. They have also been looking at reducing the number of hours at some offices and placing a freeze on new hires and any raises for existing employees. Unfortunately it looks like those measures still aren’t enough to bring down the organizations expenses as much as they want, and now come the drastic measures.

As it currently stands, the postal service is looking at a $7 billion loss for the fiscal year closing on September 30th, and this is even with a postal rate increase that happened in May. So, the only solution at this point is to look at closing and consolidating some of the existing offices. There are currently 32,741 post offices, and after putting together a list of 3,243 potential closure sites, they are now looking at a list of around 677. You can see the post office closings list (PDF link) for yourself, and it looks to me to be mostly urban areas that are are serviced by numerous offices to begin with.

I doubt my local post office will close (there isn’t another one even closely located), but I really wouldn’t mind if it did. There is of course another side to the closings though and that is the employees. We have 2 friends that work at Post offices and one has already been moved to another post office where he was demoted in position but his pay will stay the same for three years. It is a scary time for all of the workers.

The Postal Service has been forced to make some major changes. Posts officials have sent their list of what they feel are the best candidates for closing and/or consolidation onto the independent Postal Regulatory Commission. Once the list is reviewed, the commission will publish their findings with 700 or more expected to close.

MRN Radio : The Motor Racing Network

The Motor Racing Network (MRN) is the principal radio broadcasting operation of NASCAR, promoting themselves as "The Voice of NASCAR." It broadcasts coverage of most major NASCAR races at the top three levels of NASCAR at tracks owned by International Speedway Corporation as well as Dover International Speedway and Pocono Raceway: the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and the Nationwide Series at those tracks, and the entire Camping World Truck Series. The exception to these are NSCS and NNS races held at tracks controlled by Speedway Motorsports, Inc., which operates their own radio network called the Performance Racing Network, and the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard, which is broadcast by Indianapolis Motor Speedway's own radio network in conjunction with PRN.

Because of NASCAR's policy on radio broadcasts being different as part of NASCAR's agreement in 1995, all NCTS races are broadcast on MRN regardless of track ownership. (NASCAR unified television and radio contracts under their control, not the tracks, in 1995 for that series.) The Sprint Showdown qualifying race and NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race are also broadcast on MRN, despite being held at Lowe's Motor Speedway, an SMI-owned track.

MRN was founded in 1970 by William H.G. “Big Bill” France, the founder of NASCAR and the world famous Daytona International Speedway. Its first broadcast was the 1970 Daytona 500.

The most prominent broadcaster associated with MRN is probably Eli Gold, who is identified by many racing fans as personally being the "voice of NASCAR"; however, Gold's participation is somewhat limited by his association with broadcasts of University of Alabama football, NFL football, the Arena Football League (on TNN) and NHL hockey.

Broadcasts of Sprint Cup races receive MRN's highest ratings and hence the greatest station clearance (number of stations using the broadcasts). Audiences for the Nationwide and Craftsman Truck series are considerably smaller, and so are the number of affiliated stations. Many MRN stations broadcast all three series, with the lower series being preempted in many instances by other events.

Along with race broadcasts, MRN offers other race related programs. Many different reports, talk shows, and commentary are broadcast over the network, as well as via Sirius XM Radio's NASCAR channel.

MRN also produced syndicated condensed television broadcasts of some Winston Cup races in 1979 and 1980.

Sugarland Concert Tickets: Sugarland Tour

It is no surprise that Concert Tickets for the Grammy Award winning duo Sugarland’s 2009 tour are a hot commodity. Learn more, plus find video and pictures here.

A few weeks have passed since a doctor recommended that Surgarland singer Jennifer Nettles should rest her strained vocal cords to give them time to heal. Unfortunately, that meant that Nettles and the other half of the duo “Sugarland,” Kristian Bush would have to cancel a few scheduled shows on Kenny Chesney’s Sun City Carnival tour.

A lot of fans were unaware of the cancelation until they had reached the Arena, causing more than a few to be upset. Kenny Chesney stepped up to defend the impaired singer saying that:

“It was really sad to see the way some people reacted to Jennifer needing to cancel her appearance in San Francisco.”
d then he went on to say that we should be worried “about her long-term vocal health” and not just a single show.

The Sugarland tour resumed last Thursday (July 30) in Bend, Ore. You can catch the duo’s live concert tonight (Aug. 3) at 8:00 PM ET on “Live on the Inside,” their ABC television special.

The Grocery Game

Have you heard the popular game "The grocery game". If not, I'll give you some info about the game. The grocery game Shelly Willis saves an average of 70% a week on her grocery bill by playing The Grocery Game. While watching the Food Network five years ago, Shelly was intrigued by the show’s featured guest, Terri Gault, the founder of The Grocery Game. Terri was explaining how The Grocery Game works and the benefits. Shelly, a stay home mom of a 10 and 12 year old, signed up and has been saving money ever since.

The Grocery Game gives you a list of advertised and unadvertised specials at the store or stores you select near you. It will match coupons with specials. It also has message boards where members share their savings tips.

Amy Almquist, stay home mom to 2 young children has been playing The Grocery Game for 2 months. On average she saves 38-40% a week on her grocery bill, or about $55. “One week I saved 49% and $74! I even saved my receipt.” Amy said it does take a little more planning to make her grocery list now, but it’s well worth it, and it really is fun to see how much money you can save. “I’ve learned to make our menu for the week based on what’s on sale, or what we already have, so that helps save too.”

Shelly is so passionate about The Grocery Game that she now visits churches and civic groups explaining the program and helping folks sign up. Shelly uses the binder method for her coupons. She uses trading card pages, and separates the coupons by category. “It’s quick and easy!” she shares.

The Grocery Game does cost to join. You may sign up for a 4 week free trial here. An 8 week membership is $10 for 1 store, $15 for 2 stores, and $20 for 3 stores.

An alternative to The Grocery Game is CouponMom. This is a free service which uses some of the same principals and ideas of The Grocery Game.

The Sweetest Thing

A funny, sweet comedy about two best friends who set out on a roadtrip to find Mr. Right. "The Sweetest Thing" is a sweet, funny movie that will be sure to make you have a good time. While the story isn't intricate or intellectual, it will entertain you from start to finish. The outrageous situations that Cameron Diaz and Christina Applegate find themselves stuck in will make you burst with laughter. This is the perfect flick for you and your best bud to enjoy.

Directed by Roger Kumble, this film tells the story of two best friends, Christina and Courtney, who have always lived on the edge. They go out and party as much as they can, without thinking about finding "the right guy." However, when they go out clubbing one night, Christina meets Peter. However, Christina misses her chance with Peter that night. The next day when she regrets her decision not to pursue Peter, she and her gal pal Courtney decide to go half way across the country to find him, only to discover something shocking. This film stars Cameron Diaz as Christina Walter, Christina Applegate as Courtney Rockcliffe, Selma Blair as Jane Burns and Thomas Jane as Peter Donahue. Also featured throughout the film are Frank Grillo, Jason Bateman, Eddie McClintock, Lillian Adams, Johnny Messner and Sybil Temtchine. Cameron Diaz and Christina Applegate have such great chemistry on screen that you would think they've actually been best friends for years. What separates this rom-com from others is that it strays away from indulging in the sappy, weepy dialogue. Instead, this film chooses to surprise its audience with crude, sexual jokes.

You won't find brilliant cinematography or even an outstanding storyline. However, this is the perfect film for you and your gal pals if you're looking to kick back, laugh and just enjoy yourself.

Rhinoceros

Rhinoceros (pronounced /raɪˈnÉ’sÉ™rÉ™s/), often colloquially abbreviated rhino, is a name used to group five extant species of odd-toed ungulates in the family Rhinocerotidae. Two of these species are native to Africa and three to southern Asia. Three of the five species—the Javan, Sumatran and Black Rhinoceros—are critically endangered. The Indian is endangered, with fewer than 2,700 individuals remaining in the wild. The White is registered as Vulnerable, with approximately 17,500 remaining in the wild, as reported by the Intenational Rhino Foundation. The Rhinoceros Beetle is named as such due to its horns, which simulate rhino's horns.

The white rhino is actually not white at all. The name comes from "wide" referring to the wide square mouth that allows the rhino to eat broads of grass.

The rhinoceros family is characterized by its large size (one of the largest remaining megafauna alive today), with all of the species able to reach one ton or more in weight; herbivorous diet; and a thick protective skin, 1.5–5 cm thick, formed from layers of collagen positioned in a lattice structure; relatively small brains for mammals this size (400–600g); and a large horn. They generally eat leafy material, although their ability to ferment food in their hindgut allows them to subsist on more fibrous plant matter, if necessary. Unlike other perissodactyls, the African species of rhinoceros lack teeth at the front of their mouths, relying instead on their powerful premolar and molar teeth to grind up plant food.

The rhino is prized for its horn. The horns of a rhinoceros are made of keratin, the same type of protein that makes up hair and fingernails.[4] Both African species and the Sumatran Rhinoceros have two horns, while the Indian and Javan Rhinoceros have a single horn. Rhinoceroses have acute hearing and sense of smell, but poor eyesight. Most live to be about 60 years old or more.

China pneumonic plague death prompts alert

>> August 2, 2009

According to BBC News, thousands of people have been placed in quarantine in north-western China after a man died of pneumonic plague. Chinese authorities say the man who died was a 32-year-old herdsman from a sparsely populated area mostly inhabited by Tibetans. Most of the other 11 people infected with the disease are relatives of the dead man.The local government has not yet said when the man died but it has sealed off the town where the outbreak occurred. It says there are enough supplies to feed the 10,000 or so people who live in the town of Ziketan, near Xinghai in Qinghai province, during the quarantine period.

Pneumonic plague is a virulent form of the disease that attacks the lungs. It can spread from person to person, or from animals to people.Initial symptoms include fever, headache and shortness of breath. To reduce the chances of death, anyone infected needs to receive treatment within 24 hours of the first symptoms. This is not the only contagious disease that China is grappling with at the moment. It has taken very strict measures to control the spread of swine flu which has also led to thousands of people being quarantined.

McCutchen hits three homers in rout

Baseball superstar McCutchen hit three home runs, the last resulting in a curtain call, as the Pirates beat the Nationals, 11-6, in front of 26,855 at PNC Park. Pittsburgh has now won four in a row against Washington in Pittsburgh.

PITTSBURGH -- Andrew McCutchen's first-inning long ball over the wall in the left-field corner was only a glimpse of what was to come on Saturday night.

"Just one of those days," McCutchen said. "Every baseball player has one of those days. Just one of those days where everything worked, everything went your way and you got your pitches -- and I was able to hit them. I was able to get 'em out. It's just a day that I know I won't forget. Just a day I need to remember."

McCutchen went deep in the first, fourth and sixth innings, driving in six runs to tie Craig Monroe for the most RBIs in a game by a Pittsburgh player this season. Monroe drove in his six on April 18 against Atlanta.

The rookie outfielder, who had four hits, was the first Pirates player to hit three homers in game since Aramis Ramirez did it on April 8, 2001, at Houston. McCutchen also became the first Bucco to hit a trio of long balls in one game at home since Darnell Coles back on Sept. 30, 1987.

"He's got tremendous bat speed, and he's got the ability to drive the ball," Pirates manager John Russell said. "The good thing about Andrew, he works the count, he uses the whole field, he's been driving balls to right-center. But he does have the ability, if a mistake's made, that he's got the kind of bat speed and power to drive the ball over the wall."

McCutchen's first homer was the first time the Pirates have hit a long ball to lead off the first inning since May 31, when Nate McLouth did it against the Astros.

McCutchen then showed his speed with a bunt single without a throw in the third to post his 20th multihit game in his 51st game of the season. No. 2 hitter Lastings Milledge followed the bunt hit with a two-run double.

Milledge has four RBIs in only two games with the Pirates after posting just one RBI in 24 at-bats earlier this season with the Nationals.

McCutchen followed in the next inning with his second dinger, a two-run blast that also scored Brandon Moss.

The center fielder's offensive barrage didn't end there, however, as he hit three-run homer in the sixth, again bringing in Moss. After McCutchen rounded the bases and went to the dugout, he came out for the curtain call.

"I don't look at myself as a power hitter," McCutchen said. "I look at myself as a person that just drives the ball in the gaps -- hit line drives. That's the way I work off of."

McCutchen went 4-for-5, scored four times, and now has six hits in the past two days. He also got a standing ovation before his final at-bat of the game in the eighth. Although he grounded into a double play, applause erupted once again.

"McCutchen was really good," Nationals manager Jim Riggleman said. "He is going to be a force to deal with."

The offensive barrage helped starter Virgil Vasquez, who won his second game of the season -- and career. The righty gave up three runs on nine hits in five innings.

Despite the win, Vasquez was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis after the game, a move he said he sensed. Pitcher Steven Jackson will be recalled on Sunday.

Vasquez's first-inning struggles continued Saturday, as he gave up two runs on three hits in the frame. Four straight batters reached in the inning, although it could've been worse. But Vasquez yielded just one more run after the bases were loaded with just one out.

In seven starts this season, Vasquez has given up 12 runs in the first innings of starts, which is eight more than in any other inning.

"I'll be ready to come back whenever they need me," Vasquez said. "That's all I can do, is just be prepared. I wasn't as dominant as I expected myself to be. I expect a lot out of myself -- expect almost perfection. I'll go down there, just keep preparing, keep doing what I do and work on a few things and come back ready to go, if it's in the rotation or in the bullpen."

The right-hander did rebound after the first, however, as he stranded two runners with no out in the third thanks to a double play. He stranded two more runners in the fourth and fifth.

2010 Nissan LEAF : Electric Car

It would be easy to paint Nissan as late to the burgeoning U.S. green party, as the company essentially only counts the Altima Hybrid to sell among its alt-fuel offerings – and that sedan utilizes technology borrowed from Toyota, and it's only sold in a few states in small volumes. While that may be the case, Nissan says their near-term prospects are really quite different. While the company has admittedly been cautious in marketing alt-fuel vehicles in North America, they have been hard at work developing electric vehicles – as well as the advanced lithium-ion batteries to support them – since 1992. What's more, officials say they are now singularly well-placed to leapfrog "transitional" powertrain solutions like gas-electric hybrids in favor of genuine zero-emissions vehicles, and they are promising that their first pure-electric car will reach U.S. shores late next year.
Slated for launch in late 2010 in Japan, the United States, and Europe, the car will arrive on the market around the same time as the Chevrolet Volt.

Powered by a 24 kWh lithium ion battery pack mounted under the car’s floor, LEAF is based on a new pure-electric platform developed around the Tiida/Versa chassis. For reference, LEAF’s battery pack has roughly 40% the capacity of the one used in Tesla’s $100,000 Roadster.

LEAF can be charged up to 80 percent of its full capacity in just under 30 minutes via a quick charging station. Charging at home through a regular 220-volt outlet is estimated to take approximately eight hours. The vehicle’s motor is believed to deliver 107-horsepower and 206 pound-feet of torque.

LED headlights up front consume just 10 percent of the electricity of conventional lamps, and optimized aerodynamics further improve overall efficiency.
The car will be the first model compatible with Nissan’s recently announced iPhone application that will allow owners to monitor their car’s battery level. away from their vehicle, the application will let owners see how much charge is left in their car’s battery, how much time is required for a full charge and, for public charging stations, the approximate cost of a fill up.

'Sons of Anarchy' Release Promo Pics of Season 2

FX has just released new promo stills from its fabulous motorcycle-gang drama Sons of Anarchy, and we've got them first! The men (and women) of Samcro are back and looking more badass than ever. Click one of the thumbnails below to get your first look at Jax (Charlie Hunnam), Clay (Ron Perlman), Gemma (Katey Sagal), Tara (Maggie Siff), Opie (Ryan Hurst) and all the rest in season two.

From the line-up, two of them are new to the show. AJ Weston, played by Henry Rollins, is a lieutenant of a white separatist organization The League of American Nationalists (LOAN) which will give Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club, Redwood Original (SAMCRO) a lot of headache. Ethan Zobelle (Adam Arkin) meanwhile, is a neo-Nazi and the owner of LOAN. He will open a cigar shop on Main Street to ingratiate himself with the community and force SAMCRO out.

Second season of the macho series kicks off September 8. This season Jax and the club deal with the fallout from Donna's death, bringing internal tensions to an all-time high while a new enemy takes root in Charming. E! Online, which acquires the stills first hand, said that the season premiere will be "deeply disturbing" toward the end that it "would probably turn any innocent bystander off the show forever and may even drive away a few fans."
