Taliban Video Shows Captive US soldier

The video frame above is actually taken from a Taliban propaganda video released Saturday, July 18, 2009 shows an American soldier who went missing from his base in eastern Afghanistan June 30 and was later confirmed captured. The soldier, whose identity has not yet been confirmed by the Pentagon pending notification of members of Congress and the soldier's family, says his name, age and hometown on the video, which was released Saturday on a Web site pointed out by the Taliban.

Cronkite will be buried in Missouri after NYC funeral

Walter Cronkite's final resting place will be next to his late wife in Missouri, where the two first met, his chief of staff said Saturday.The 92-year-old former CBS anchorman died Friday at his Manhattan home of disease involving blood vessels in the brain, according to Marlene Adler, his longtime chief of staff. A private funeral service was scheduled for Thursday at St. Bartholomew's Church. Adler said the Rev. William Tully will preside over the Episcopal service at the Park Avenue church, which the Cronkites attended for many years. A memorial is to be held within the next month in Avery Fisher Hall at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, Adler said.

"It will be a fitting tribute to Mr. Cronkite and the life he lived, the people he knew, the people who loved him and the people he admired," said Adler, who headed Cronkite's staff for the past 20 years.

The Committee to Protect Journalists, an organization that works to safeguard press freedoms worldwide, will post remembrances of Cronkite, an honorary co-chairman, on its blog.

Scientists have found the electrons in a layer of carbon atoms can become a strongly interacting swirling soup.

Young Girl Shot and Killed During Domestic Argument

An 8-year-old girl has been shot and killed, caught in the middle of a domestic argument between a man and his estranged wife.

Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of a domestic related shooting at 244 Ridings Road in northern Spartanburg County Wednesday afternoon about 3:00 PM. Upon arrival deputies found 8-year-old Heather Brooke Center, dead from gunshot wounds, lying on the ground outside the residence.The child would have been a third grader in the next school year at Reidville Elementary, according to family.The girl’s aunt told us, “We don’t know why this happened…Why would somebody want to hurt a baby…she didnt do anything to nobody.“

Witnesses told deputies that the suspect, identified as Ricky Lee Blackwell, 49 years old, of 248 Ridings Road, Chesnee, fled the scene just moments before they arrived, running in the direction of 248 Ridings Road.

LeBron James got dunked on by sophomore Jordan Crawford from Xavier, but the video will probably never see the light of day. Nike black suits snatched all the tapes at the LeBron James Skills Academy that featured the now legendary dunk. Nike should go ahead and release the video because the fallout from TapeGate has been worse than anything we would’ve seen. In the meantime we’ll have to settle for a “LeBron James Gets Dunked On” compilation video. The big winner in all of this is Jordan Crawford. We should be seeing him interviewed any minute now and if nothing else, he’ll always be the guy that dunked on LeBron and nobody saw it.
